Cheques are a normal part of business in Pakistan, and also a common source of confusion. A cheque is not cash yet, it is a promise that has to clear, and it might bounce. Between receiving a cheque and it clearing, it sits in limbo, and that is exactly where cheques get forgotten. Pay Kar has cheque management to keep every one tracked. Here is how.
Tracking a cheque
- In the sidebar, open Banking and Finance and go to Cheque Management.
- Record the cheque, whether it is one you received from a customer or one you issued to a supplier, with its amount, date, and the party involved.
- Set its status, pending until it clears, so you always know which cheques are still in the air.
- Update the status when it resolves, cleared when the money is confirmed, or bounced if it fails.
Why this matters: the in-between state
The danger with cheques is treating them as money before they clear. A cheque received is not the same as cash in hand, and a business that counts unclear cheques as settled can get a nasty surprise when one bounces. Cheque management keeps that distinction clear: you can see what is pending, what has cleared, and what has bounced, so you never mistake a promise for payment.
Handling a bounced cheque
When a cheque bounces, the payment it represented did not actually happen, which means the balance it was meant to settle is still owed. Recording the bounce properly means your customer or supplier balance reflects the truth again, the debt is still there, and you can follow up. Handled loosely, a bounced cheque leaves your records wrong and the money quietly uncollected.
Post-dated cheques
Businesses often receive post-dated cheques, dated for a future day. Tracking these means you know what is coming and when, so a cheque due next week does not slip your mind. It turns a drawer full of paper cheques into a clear list of what will clear, and when.
A few tips
- Do not count a cheque as paid until it clears, track it as pending first.
- Record bounces promptly, so the balance owed is restored and you can follow up.
- Keep an eye on post-dated cheques so you know what money is coming and when.
